What they may not be aware of is that Schon has a vibrant career as a solo artist as well. So U is Schon's latest 'solo project' release. This nine-track record contains seven songs with vocals, and two instrumental songs. On this release, backing up Schon are Marco Mendoza (Black Star Riders) on bass guitar, and Deen Castronovo (Journey) on drums. Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) contributed additional songwriting ideas and assistance on some of the tracks. So U is designed to cast a broad net to appeal to a large portion of rock music fans: it isn't too esoteric, nor is it too commercial – it balances accessible listening with diverse ideas. On May 1st "Atoma" will be released! It's S Y K's first album (formed by Stefano Ferrian on guitar, Federico De Bernardi di Valserra from Psychofagist on drums, Dalila Kayros on vocals and Luca Pissavini on bass). The album has been recoded and mixed in January/February by Stefano Ferrian. It will be released by L'inphantileS Y K On May 1st "Atoma" will be released! I missed most of the set, but wanted to be able to discuss the band, so I checked YouTube's old live video archiveI found out about Monty Colvin, his Rockcast podcast, and his Galactic Cowboys through a friend, Kyle Sweet. Sweet's KrankIt! Radio was playing an entire set of Galactic Cowboys material one night. I missed most of the set, but wanted to be able to discuss the band, so I checked YouTube's old live video archive to see what they sounded like. I loved 'em immediately: a quirky smashup between M.O.D/Anthrax heavy riffs that feature a wicked 'grindcore' bass guitar tone, set against highly melodic, multipart vocal harmony overlays and choruses. The music kicked your ass, and then laid you on a bed of roses: for a metal band that heavy, you sure didn't expect to hear such surprisingly great vocal work. For a "progressive thrash" band who's heyday played out during the time metal was supposedly dead, the sound was very progressive: listeners can hear roots of everything from metalcore to 'modern melodic rock'. Galactic Cowboys was one of the last great holdout bands on 'the majors' through the 1990s. NASA Assassin are a five piece from Northern Ireland, but where I can not say as they describe themselves as being from outer space. They have been together for approximately 9 - 10 years and have just release their debut album titled Area 69.  The album has been produced by Peter Pratt and the bandNASA Assassin are a five piece from Northern Ireland, but where I can not say as they describe themselves as being from outer space. Recorded and mixed at Blueroom Studios. Enough about the back ground details and down to the album it's -self. From the first note right through to the last it's in your face.  Technically, it is well produced and has a clean sound with the drums as much to the for as the guitars are.  There is definitely a dark side to the lyrics as is very evident in the first track 'Nasa Assassin' when they tell us that 'The writings on the wall, the human race will fall.' It is clearly true that all members if this band are accomplished musicians as through out this album all elements blend together perfectly. Fallen Mafia & Bulletproof Rose - The Snooty Fox, Wakefield: 19th April 2014

I was pleased to see that they were both playing at The Snooty Fox in Wakefield over Easter, when I was already planning to visit my parents. The Snooty Fox is a small venue on Brunswick Street near Wakefield Kirkgate Rail Station, about 5-10 mins walk from the centre of Wakefield. With a pool-room on one side of the bar and a stage on the other it's a fantastic little venue with a ceiling adorned with t-shirts from many of the bands who have played there over the years. The Snooty Fox usually streams concerts live and today was no exception. Bulletproof Rose Bulletproof Rose are a four piece hard rock band hailing from West Cumbria. Opening with Strung Out a very fast and heavy opening setting the scene for the rest of their set. Judging by the quality of this trio of songs, hopefully it will soon get recorded and released. Opening track 'Demon Halo' begins with raw, thick crunching riffs with the guitar tones grabbing your attention straight away as they precede soaring Dio-like vocals with some neat 'Bark At The Moon' like guitar lines midway. The insistent opening riffs of 'Under Her Spell' build up to an early Def Leppard style groove. The vocals are a lot rougher on this number like a lower register Rob Halford. Closing track 'The Warriors' is a headbanging inducing 'Princess Of The Dawn' style chugger. The vocals are aggressive again with some wailing Blackie Lawless growls thrown in for effect. A little touch of an AC/DC ghost perhaps I feel can be heard in the lead guitar. It has been five years since the release of Brother Firetribe's last album "Heart Full of Fire", but now finally, the new opus from singer Pekka Heino Ansio from LEVERAGE fame and NIGHTWISH's guitar maestro Emppu Vuorinen is complete. The long wait has been caused by the members being heavily involved in other projects, so much so that people were beginning to wonder if "Diamond in the Firepit" would ever see the light of day. If the mention of the name Emppu means you're expecting symphonic metal then think again – this is very different from Nightwish and is actually melodic rock, certainly bordering on AOR and is very easy on the ears. This new album isn't much different from the first two, and why should it be, the band has moved on, though not by much, just enough in the right direction for me, let's just say the band have grown. The more they played, the more listeners were coming up to check them out. Although the beginning of their show wasn't that cracking but in the end it was really great experience to hear and to see. Following successful North American back-to-back tours with Dark Tranquillity and Lich King, California's young "powershred" foursome Exmortus decided to have a wee chat with PlanetMosh. Summarizing Slave to the Sword, these ten tracks have a thrash metal backbone, abrasive or 'harsh' vocals, and every song is packed to the hilt with lick after lick of fast,Following successful North American back-to-back tours with Dark Tranquillity and Lich King, California's young "powershred" foursome Exmortus decided to have a wee chat with PlanetMosh. Summarizing Slave to the Sword, these ten tracks have a thrash metal backbone, abrasive or 'harsh' vocals, and every song is packed to the hilt with lick after lick of fast, confident, unashamed shred guitar. While the crazy shred is not as 'clean' as some of the modern masters – Vai, Gilbert, Satriani, etc – it's very, very energetic, intense, well-composed, and powerful. And it doesn't have to be that clean: this is extreme metal, built on a loud, ostentatious vibe; music for headbanging and circle-pitting. The band has an energetic, super-entertaining live show as well. These are well-done tunes for those who like their music served sizzling hot. At one point in time, the band had "Heavy Metal" spray-painted on to the jam room wall, and Iron Maiden electrical-taped to the guitar. That's dedication: the band seems to be hooked for the long haul, a longer journey in to the realm of heavy music then most.
