Jon Allen-Deep River


Winchester born, but now London-based Jon Allen's latest offering is called Deep River. The first thing to tell you is it is not a rock release, but has more leanings towards Folk music, however I like it. It has a mellow feel and a maturity that is hard to beat. If I knew this was classified under Folk Rock before I played it, then I might not have bothered with it, and moved onto the numerous other cd's I have waiting for review, but I would have listened to it one day. When I had the time. However I didn't, and I am glad that I didn't, as this is a very accomplished record indeed, for me, this is more of a Blues/Folk/Rock album than a strictly Folk rock record, but we are splitting hairs again, and putting music into boxes, sometimes it is better to just accept them for what they are, very good songs played with a real depth of passion and sung with a voice you have heard before, and I will tell you why. Jon Allen has a voice you won't easily forget, Just ask Jools Holland, who asked that Jon appear on his "Later with…" [...]
