This three track E.P. marks the bands first release since the mini album 'Wilderness', which saw the light of day last summer.   I remember remarking then, how technically tight and adept this band were, a trait that has been happily brought forward with this new material. Japan, at the moment, seems to be something of aThis three track E.P. marks the bands first release since the mini album 'Wilderness', which saw the light of day last summer.   I remember remarking then, how technically tight and adept this band were, a trait that has been happily brought forward with this new material. Japan, at the moment, seems to be something of a hotbed for Metal bands, and not in the traditional sense either. Elüpia are a very forward thinking band, and seems totally at ease switching tempo and styles, all carried along with Nene's immense and very striking Soprano vocal. The E.P. kicks off with 'There We Go – The Hypnotising Forest (Second Movement)', a song that starts sedately enough with its piano/keyboard intro, before kicking in with a solid Symphonic Metal riff, which then alternates between quieter passages, and, I might add, a rather catchy chorus to cap things off. Second track, 'Sorceress! – The Hypnotising Forest (Third Movement)' is an altogether darker composition, generating images of whirling dervishes and spells amid the dark forest, with its swirling and soaring elements, and Nene's voice belting out notes that I never knew existed. Starts off with an eery strings intro, which instantly sucks me in, only to be smacked in the face with some pulsing blast beats and disquieting chords which set you on edge. Vocals then join the fray and the groove begins! Fucking intense 0.38. A short change of pace, the layers of complexity to this track is an intense experience. OOOFFT 2.05, heavy riffs, pinches, more layering. Shit I can't keep up. The vocal style is brutal but crisp and compliments the track as a whole allowing for certain aspects to come and go in between and flow over. Good start!   Masonic Angeldust has a slightly different feel to it. More melodic in places while still maintaining the same level of brutality and intricacy. German Epic Metal pioneers EQUILIBRIUM have announced the details of their fourth studio album! Guitarist, composer and lyricist René Berthiaume  has spent almost four years working on their new creation, entitled 'Erdentempel'.  The album was recorded, produced and mixed under the direction of René at Helion Studios and mastered at Finnvox-Studios. Following on from 2012's 'The End Of Existence' EP Northern Irish Death Metal young guns Katabolisis return with their blistering follow-up – 'Atrocity'. If you had checked out the 'End Of Existence' EP you could almost be forgiven for giving this one a miss, while the musicianship was there, the vocals had largely been lost in theAtrocity EP Following on from 2012's 'The End Of Existence' EP Northern Irish Death Metal young guns Katabolisis return with their blistering follow-up – 'Atrocity'. If you had checked out the 'End Of Existence' EP you could almost be forgiven for giving this one a miss, while the musicianship was there, the vocals had largely been lost in the mix, and left the listener somewhat disappointed. However this is nothing like that. This time around the guys have spent a bit of hard earned cash and got the mastering just right. Katabolisis have lost none of their excellent musical qualities, the twin guitar attack of Matt Medlow and Derek Wylie is at times dark and heavy, just as you would expect, but at other times the solos and fills are soaring and intricate. Timothy Hanna and Sean McQuillan provide an equally ferocious backline and Mark Chambers vocals snarl at the listener like some kind of feral beast, then just when you've got to grips with that the vocals drop an octave or two, as on 'Order Of Serpents' & you wonder just what kind of beast could sound as guttural as this? Austin, TX psyche rockers Boyfrndz were the victims of a robbery this morning in San Francisco.  The group's van, cargo trailer, & all their gear were stolen sometime between 1 and 7am PST. It was parked at 1501 Grove st. ANATHEMA announce new album details + acoustic shows

ANATHEMA return in June with Distant Satellites, their brand new studio album.  Due to be released on the 9th June via Kscope, distant satellites is the highly anticipated follow up to 2012's Weather Systems, recorded at Cederberg Studios in Oslo, with producer Christer-André Cederberg. Western Sand – Western Sand (EP)

Hampshire, UK rockers Western Sand released a four-song, eponymous EP in 2013. Well-written and well-mixed, the EP is surprisingly polished for a debut. Songs have a nice, smooth idea flow. Tunes are mid-tempo, with chunky rock licks and a big backbeat; just the right amount of dirt for the grab they've got, tight & together. Two guitar tracks are heard: each one audible in it's own right, with it's own wide sonic spectrum. Thankfully, the vocal doesn't sound Auto-Tuned: it's very characteristic and well-planned. If you crave good, toothy rock & roll without any metal edge or weak spots, this is a great disc to pick up. These guys are going places! None of the four songs are 'amazing', but all are rock solid, pun intended. Agreeable and groove-laden, Western Sand is reminiscent of American classic rock. Culturally relevant, socially aware lyrics keep the band relevant and recognizable. Poignant slide guitar, plus a wide variety of percussion add depth and interest. Bass guitar often shares the sonic limelight with lead; it's electrified groove running clearly through each song. Vocals tend to be gruff, gritty, and sincere, without excess polish. It's easy to hear how these guys landed support slots with Joe Bonamassa and Deep Purple: they've got great chops to match a catchy, distinctive sound. BEYOND THE SHORE debut "Glass Houses" video

Lexington, KY's Beyond the Shore recently filmed some clips with guitarists Zach Hunter and Jared Loucks, as well as bassist Eli Masherbash, to demonstrate the track "Glass Houses" from the "Ghostwatcher" album. However, any suggestion that this approach is a sign that Ronnie Atkins, Ken Hammer and co. are running out of creative steam as they enter their third rockin' decade would be a misnomer, as 'Louder Than Ever' is irrefutable proof that the Maids are as relevant, vibrant and, well, louder than ever. Looking at the eight re-worked tracks first, it's a carefully chosen and clever selection from the heavier end of their back catalogue, featuring the likes of the towering 'Psycho Time Bomb Planet Earth' (given the benefit of a huge kick of modernity almost two decades on from its original release), the double whammy of 'He Who Never Lived' and 'Virtual Brutality' (from 2002′s excellent 'Planet Panic' album, which also spawns a hard-hitting re-invention of the under-rated, WASP-esque 'Playing God') and an acerbic rendition of the title track from 'Wake Up To The Real World'.
